Former Nebraska Volleyball player Merritt Beason shares major career update

Merritt Beason, Nebraska Volleyball Alum and All-American, Returns to Alabama as a Volleyball Coach

Merritt Beason, a Nebraska Volleyball alum and former All-American, is returning to her roots in Alabama to take on an exciting new challenge. After an illustrious career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Beason has made the decision to transition from player to coach, bringing her extensive knowledge, skills, and passion for the game back to the state where her journey began.

Beason’s return to Alabama marks the next step in what has already been a remarkable career. Known for her fierce determination and unmatched volleyball IQ, Beason quickly became one of the standout players in the nation during her time at Nebraska. She was a key contributor to the team’s success, earning All-American honors and solidifying her status as one of the top players in the collegiate volleyball scene. But despite her achievements, Beason always knew that her love for the game extended beyond playing — she had a strong desire to help develop and mentor the next generation of athletes.

“I always knew coaching was something I’d be interested in after I finished playing,” Beason said, reflecting on her time at Nebraska. “When I was at Nebraska, I learned so much not only about the game but about life and leadership. I’m excited to bring that knowledge back to Alabama and help young athletes grow both on and off the court.”

The decision to return to Alabama, where Beason first developed her skills and love for volleyball, is a full-circle moment. Beason grew up in the state and honed her craft in high school, where her exceptional abilities on the court caught the attention of collegiate recruiters. Ultimately, it was Nebraska’s renowned volleyball program that secured her commitment, but Alabama will always hold a special place in her heart.

“Coming back to Alabama feels like coming home,” Beason said. “This is where my passion for volleyball started. I’m looking forward to giving back to the volleyball community here and hopefully inspiring young players to chase their dreams the way I did.”

Beason’s new role as a coach is a significant one, as she will be working with both high school athletes and club teams in the area, focusing on skill development, leadership, and teamwork. Her experience at Nebraska, where she competed at the highest level, provides her with a wealth of knowledge that will be invaluable to the players she coaches. She has already garnered a reputation for her meticulous approach to training, her emphasis on mental toughness, and her ability to elevate the performance of her teammates.

Her transition from player to coach comes at a time when volleyball in Alabama is on the rise, with more young athletes pursuing the sport at an elite level. Beason’s leadership, both on the court and as a mentor, is expected to play a major role in further developing the state’s volleyball scene.

“I’ve always had a passion for coaching,” Beason shared. “Being able to pass on what I’ve learned from some of the best coaches in the world to the next generation is a privilege. I want to make sure these players have the tools they need to succeed, not only in volleyball but in life.”

For those who have followed Beason’s career, this next chapter promises to be just as inspiring as her playing days. Her return to Alabama is sure to leave a lasting impact, both on and off the court, as she sets out to shape the future of volleyball in her home state.
