Former Florida State University (FSU) defensive end Josh Sweat has signed a four-year, $76.4 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals, including $41 million guaranteed. At 27 years old, Sweat brings valuable experience and a strong track record to his new team.

Career Highlights and Performance

Sweat’s tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles was marked by significant achievements. In Super Bowl LIX, he delivered an exceptional performance, recording 2.5 sacks and three quarterback hits, contributing to the Eagles’ 40–22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Throughout the 2024 regular season, he played 16 games, amassing eight sacks, 15 quarterback hits, and 41 tackles, nine of which were for loss. His consistent excellence earned him a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 and solidified his reputation as one of the league’s premier pass rushers.

Strategic Fit with the Arizona Cardinals

Sweat’s decision to join the Arizona Cardinals reunites him with head coach Jonathan Gannon, who previously served as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator. This continuity is expected to enhance Sweat’s impact on Arizona’s defense, leveraging their prior successful collaboration.

Impact on the Cardinals’ Defense

The Cardinals’ investment in Sweat underscores their commitment to bolstering their defense. His proven track record in high-pressure games and consistent performance makes him a valuable asset. Sweat’s presence is anticipated to elevate the Cardinals’ pass rush, providing a formidable edge rusher to complement their existing defensive lineup.

Looking Ahead

As Josh Sweat embarks on this new chapter with the Arizona Cardinals, both he and the team aim to build on past successes. The strategic alignment between Sweat’s experience and the Cardinals’ defensive objectives positions them for a promising future in the upcoming NFL seasons.
