Former BYU Stars Kaylee Smiler Mo’o and Tegan Graham Represent New Zealand’s Tall Ferns
Two of BYU’s most respected former women’s basketball players, Kaylee Smiler Mo’o and Tegan Graham, have taken their talents to the international stage, suiting up for New Zealand’s national team—the Tall Ferns. Their inclusion highlights not only their personal growth but also the strength of BYU’s basketball development pipeline.
Both Smiler Mo’o and Graham played pivotal roles during their time at BYU, contributing leadership, hustle, and high-level play to the Cougars’ success in recent seasons. Now, they are bringing that same energy and professionalism to New Zealand’s national squad as it prepares for upcoming international competitions.
Smiler Mo’o, known for her defensive tenacity and high basketball IQ, continues to impress with her versatility. Graham, a skilled sharpshooter and emotional leader, adds veteran presence and scoring punch to the Tall Ferns roster.
“I’m beyond proud of Kaylee and Tegan,” said BYU head coach Lee Cummard. “They’ve always represented BYU with class, and now they’re doing the same for their country. It’s a huge honor and incredibly well deserved.”
The Tall Ferns are ramping up preparations for regional tournaments and qualifiers that could secure their spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. With the addition of seasoned athletes like Smiler Mo’o and Graham, New Zealand strengthens both its depth and experience.
For BYU, their continued success reflects positively on the program’s global reach and its emphasis on developing well-rounded players. It also inspires current Cougars, showing what’s possible with dedication, focus, and hard work.
As the Tall Ferns continue their journey toward international success, BYU fans can proudly follow along, knowing two of their own are helping make that dream a reality.
