Former BYU standout Jimmer Fredette begins a new chapter in basketball, taking on a fresh role within the sport’s community.

Jimmer Fredette, the former BYU basketball star known for his long-range shooting and electric scoring ability, has taken on a new role in the basketball world. While many remember him for his college heroics and high-scoring games, Fredette is now shifting his focus from playing to contributing to the sport in a different capacity. This new chapter marks an exciting evolution in his basketball journey.

After years of playing professionally around the world—including stints in the NBA, China, Greece, and most recently in international competitions—Fredette has embraced a new opportunity that allows him to stay close to the game he loves. As of 2025, he has taken a position with USA Basketball as a player ambassador and mentor, with a focus on developing youth talent and contributing to the national team program.

Fredette’s new role is multifaceted. He will be involved in training camps, youth development initiatives, and international outreach programs. His experience playing in diverse basketball environments gives him a unique perspective, one that is especially valuable as USA Basketball looks to strengthen its pipeline of talent and maintain its global leadership. In particular, his time playing in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), where he became a fan favorite and put up staggering numbers, provided insight into the global popularity and influence of basketball beyond the NBA.

This position also aligns with Fredette’s recent involvement with the 3×3 basketball format. In 2023, he helped Team USA win the gold medal in 3×3 basketball at the Pan American Games and played a key role in the team’s efforts to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics. His transition into a developmental and mentorship role reflects his desire to give back to the sport and to guide younger athletes both on and off the court.

Fredette has always been more than just a scorer. At BYU, he became a national sensation during his senior season in 2010–11, earning National Player of the Year honors and becoming a symbol of the “March Madness” magic. While his NBA career didn’t reach the heights many expected, he carved out a successful international career and remained a respected figure in basketball circles.

In his new role, Fredette will also contribute to coaching clinics and represent USA Basketball at various events and international tournaments. His communication skills, charisma, and basketball IQ make him a natural fit for such responsibilities. Those who have followed his career closely know that his passion for the game runs deep, and this move allows him to channel that passion into helping the next generation succeed.

As Fredette embarks on this new path, fans and basketball insiders alike are excited to see how he’ll shape the future of the game. From collegiate sensation to global basketball ambassador, Jimmer Fredette’s story continues to evolve—and this latest chapter could be one of his most impactful yet.
