Former BYU Forward Emma Calvert Commits to Oregon State for Senior Season
BYU women’s basketball forward Emma Calvert has officially transferred to Oregon State, marking a major addition for the Beavers and signaling a new chapter for one of the Cougars’ most consistent performers. The senior announced her decision after entering the transfer portal earlier this spring.
Calvert, a 6-foot-4 versatile forward from Utah, was a key piece of BYU’s frontcourt over the past three seasons. She averaged 7.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and shot nearly 45% from the field during the 2023–24 campaign, providing inside-out scoring and solid defensive presence for the Cougars. Known for her work ethic and leadership, Calvert was often praised by coaches for her ability to stretch the floor and defend multiple positions.
In her announcement, Calvert expressed deep gratitude toward BYU and the fans, calling her time in Provo “a blessing” and “a place that helped me grow on and off the court.” However, she noted that the opportunity at Oregon State offers “a fresh start and a chance to compete in one of the best conferences in the country.”
Oregon State, which is reloading after a strong 2023–24 season, sees Calvert as a player who can contribute immediately in the Pac-12. Her size, shooting touch, and experience make her a valuable asset in a league known for physical play and high-level talent.
For BYU, Calvert’s departure is one of the more significant portal exits this offseason, as the program navigates changes following a challenging inaugural year in the Big 12. While her absence will be felt, it also opens the door for younger players to step into bigger roles as head coach Amber Whiting reshapes the roster.
Calvert will be eligible to play immediately for the Beavers in the 2024–25 season.
