Former BYU Star Jimmer Fredette Takes on New Role with USA Basketball
Jimmer Fredette, the former BYU basketball sensation, has transitioned into a new chapter of his basketball career. Following his retirement from professional play, Fredette has been appointed as the first managing director of the U.S. men’s 3×3 basketball national team.
Fredette’s illustrious playing career began at Brigham Young University, where he gained national attention during the 2010-11 season, leading the nation in scoring and earning the National Player of the Year award. His professional journey included stints in the NBA with teams like the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, as well as overseas success in China and Greece. Notably, he became a standout in 3×3 basketball, representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics and earning the title of USA Basketball 3×3 Male Athlete of the Year in 2023.
In his new role, Fredette is tasked with building a competitive program for future international events, with a particular focus on securing gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. His responsibilities encompass assembling the right players, coaching staff, and support systems to ensure Team USA’s success in the 3×3 format.
