In an era where money talks louder than loyalty, Lonni Alameda just reminded the world what true commitment looks like.
Florida State’s legendary softball coach reportedly turned down a massive $3 million offer from UCLA — one of the richest deals ever floated for a softball coach — to stay right where her heart is: Tallahassee. Alameda, who has built FSU into a national powerhouse over the last 15 years, says the decision was bigger than money.
> “This program, this community, and these players mean everything to me,” Alameda said. “We’ve built something special here, and I’m not walking away from that.”
Since taking the reins in 2009, Alameda has led the Seminoles to 10 straight NCAA Super Regionals, three Women’s College World Series Championship appearances, and a national title in 2018. Her loyalty now adds another layer to her legacy.
Sources close to the program say UCLA’s offer included high-end facilities, NIL support, and freedom to build her dream staff — but Alameda chose family, legacy, and unfinished business with the Garnet & Gold instead.
In a time where high-profile coaching moves often feel like business transactions, Alameda’s decision feels refreshingly old school — and deeply personal.
