FIBA Approves Quentin Millora-Brown’s Status as Local Player After Successful Appeal
MANILA — The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has officially ruled that University of the Philippines standout Quentin Millora-Brown will be classified as a local player, ending months of uncertainty over his eligibility.
The 6-foot-10 center, who has been a dominant presence in the UAAP, was initially deemed a naturalized player under FIBA’s regulations. This classification would have limited his ability to represent the Philippines in certain competitions, as international basketball rules allow only one naturalized player per national team roster.
However, Millora-Brown’s legal team successfully appealed the decision, presenting documentation and arguments that convinced FIBA to reverse its earlier ruling. The decision now clears the way for him to be recognized as a full local, a significant boost for his future with the Gilas Pilipinas program.
“This is a huge relief, and I’m just thankful for everyone who fought for me,” Millora-Brown said in a brief statement. “Wearing the Philippine jersey has always been my dream, and now I can focus completely on playing and representing the country.”
The ruling also strengthens the national team’s depth in the frontcourt, as the Philippines can now field Millora-Brown alongside other top local talents without using up its naturalized player slot.
With his eligibility confirmed, Millora-Brown is expected to play a key role in upcoming international tournaments and could be a fixture for Gilas in their long-term plans.
Basketball fans celebrated the decision on social media, with many calling it “a big win for Philippine basketball” and a sign of brighter days ahead for the national team.
