In a significant recruiting development, BYU football has secured a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Alai Kalaniuvalu, who has flipped from Oregon to join the Cougars’ 2025 class. Kalaniuvalu, a standout at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, is ranked as the No. 271 overall prospect and the No. 20 interior offensive lineman nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound lineman began his high school career at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, before transferring to Bishop Gorman. His decision to commit to BYU was announced on social media with the message, “Comin’ home,” signaling a return to his roots.
Kalaniuvalu’s commitment is a significant boost for BYU’s recruiting efforts, as he becomes the highest-rated recruit in their 2025 class. He had previously committed to Oregon in July and had offers from several top programs, including Michigan, USC, Utah, and Nebraska.
This commitment follows BYU’s earlier acquisition of four-star offensive lineman Austin Pay, further strengthening their offensive line prospects. Both Kalaniuvalu and Pay are expected to serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling at BYU.
BYU’s successful recruitment of Kalaniuvalu reflects the program’s growing appeal and competitiveness on the national stage, particularly in securing top-tier talent from other Power Five programs
