The summer months are here and that means annual college football preview magazines are being released.
Both the Athlon Sports and Lindy’s rank the Miami Hurricanes as a top ten team going into the 2025 season.
Advanced analytics also views UM as a top ten team going into this year.Texas ranks as the top team in the country, according to the FPI. The metric gives Texas an 83.9 percent chance to make the 12-team College Football Playoff and a 24.1 percent chance to win the National Championship.
The rest of the top five of the FPI features No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Alabama, No. 4 Ohio State, and No. 5 Penn State.
FPI ranks five teams from the SEC inside the top ten with the Big Ten featuring three teams.According to FPI’s data, the Hurricanes have a 30.5 percent chance to win the ACC, which only trails Clemson’s 34 percent. The FPI views UM as having a 46.3 percent chance at qualifying for the 12-team College Football Playoff, which is the eighth highest percentage. FPI gives UM a 2.7 percent chance at winning the National Championship.
Miami is the highest ranked ACC team in the preseason FPI.
How is the FPI calculated? ESPN defines the metric in the following way: “The FPI is a predictive rating system that estimates each FBS team’s strength (in points per game relative to the national average) on offense, defense and special teams, making adjustments for starters lost, recruiting talent and other personnel changes. Those numbers are then plugged into the schedule, and everything is simulated 20,000 times to track each team’s odds of winning its conference, making the playoff and advancing through to the national title.”
