Era of Change in Starkville: Justin Parker Officially Takes the Helm at Mississippi State
Mississippi State University has entered a new era in its baseball program, with Justin Parker now leading the team as interim head coach. Parker stepped into this role after the university parted ways with former head coach Chris Lemonis on April 28, 2025. Lemonis, who led the Bulldogs to their first national championship in 2021, was dismissed after seven seasons.
Parker, previously the team’s pitching coach, has already made a strong impact. In his first series as interim head coach, the Bulldogs swept Kentucky — their first SEC series sweep of the season. Under Parker’s guidance, Mississippi State continued its winning streak with a solid 6–1 victory over Kentucky.
Before becoming head coach, Parker transformed the team’s pitching. In 2024, the Bulldogs saw their team ERA drop by 2.84, reduced walks by 104, and increased strikeouts by 101. These improvements placed the team among the best in the SEC and the nation.
With the team performing well under his leadership, Parker has positioned himself as a strong candidate for the permanent head coach role. Mississippi State has launched a national search for a permanent replacement, but Parker’s success in the interim role makes him a top contender.
The Bulldogs now look ahead to their next series against Missouri, aiming for a strong finish to the season. Fans are hopeful that Parker can lead the team to even greater success.
