Emma Calvert Poised for Breakout Season as BYU Enters Big 12 Play
As the BYU Cougars brace for their full immersion into Big 12 competition, one player stands out as a potential breakout star: forward Emma Calvert. With a unique blend of size, shooting touch, and high basketball IQ, Calvert is expected to play a pivotal role for BYU Women’s Basketball in the 2025–26 season.
Calvert, a junior from Fremont High School in Utah, has shown steady improvement since joining the Cougars. Known for her ability to stretch the floor as a forward, she brings a valuable inside-out presence to the lineup. Last season, she contributed solid minutes off the bench, showcasing flashes of brilliance that hinted at her untapped potential.
Now, with increased experience and confidence, Calvert is stepping into a more prominent leadership and production role. Head coach Lee Cummard has praised her offseason work ethic and believes she’s ready for the spotlight.
“Emma has embraced the grind,” said Cummard. “She’s stronger, more vocal, and focused on becoming a complete player. I’m excited to see what she does in the Big 12.”
The transition to Power Five competition will test every player, but Calvert’s versatility—ranging from pick-and-pop shooting to rim protection—makes her a key asset. Her ability to adapt to faster, more physical opponents will be crucial in helping BYU compete night in and night out.
In addition to her physical tools, Calvert is respected by teammates for her consistency, coachability, and quiet leadership. Her growth on and off the court mirrors BYU’s aspirations as the program seeks to make its mark in the nation’s most competitive women’s basketball conference.
With opportunity knocking and her skill set aligning perfectly with the Cougars’ evolving game plan, Emma Calvert is ready to rise—and Cougar Nation will be watching.
