In a huge recruiting win for the Cougars, elite 2025 linebacker PJ Takitaki has officially committed to BYU, choosing the Provo powerhouse over major offers from Tennessee, Oregon, and three other top-tier programs.
The younger brother of NFL linebacker Sione Takitaki, PJ has been on the radar of nearly every major program in the country. Known for his explosive first step, high football IQ, and relentless motor, the 6’2”, 225-pound standout from California brings toughness and tradition with him to the BYU defense.
“I’m coming home.”
In a heartfelt statement, PJ said, “BYU just felt like home. My family roots run deep here, and I want to carry on the legacy—not just for my brother, but for myself and the next generation of Cougars.”
This is a massive get for Kalani Sitake and his staff, who continue to prove they can go head-to-head with SEC and Pac-12 giants and still bring top talent to Provo.
What it means:
With BYU entering another season in the Big 12, PJ’s commitment solidifies the Cougars’ ability to recruit high-level athletes who can immediately make an impact. He’s projected to be a multi-year starter and could become the face of BYU’s defense moving forward.
