MANCHESTER CITY FC

Newcastle United considering alternatives to a key January target.

Newcastle United are still hopeful of signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, but they are looking at domestic and overseas alternatives as well

Eddie Howe is desperate to bring in reinforcements for his injury-riddled squad in January but Newcastle are determined to stay on the right side of profit and sustainability regulations.

The Newcastle manager is an admirer of Phillips, but the club are wary of Manchester City’s financial demands for a deal.

The Premier League champions want a hefty loan fee and a mandatory purchase clause, but Newcastle do not want to give in to those demands.

But it has been claimed that Newcastle are still very much hopeful of getting their hands on Phillips.

The midfielder wants regular football and would prefer to stay in the Premier League as well.

Newcastle are yet to start any official talks for him but he remains very much on their transfer agenda.

However, more Premier League clubs are interested in Phillips and Newcastle are worried that he could move on by the time they could cobble together the funds for him.

Therefore, Newcastle are sourcing alternatives both in England as well as abroad should they fail to sign the England star.
