In a move that’s melting hearts across the nation, Phoenix Suns power forward and NBA legend Kevin Durant has invested a staggering $3.6 million to transform a luxury property into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth in Phoenix.
Durant, known for his dominance on the court and philanthropy off of it, quietly purchased the sprawling estate earlier this year. Now, the former private residence is being fully renovated to serve as a safe haven for homeless and at-risk youth — offering not only shelter, but also access to mental health services, education support, and career development programs.
“This city embraced me, and I want to give that same energy back — especially to the kids who need it most,” Durant said in a brief statement shared by his foundation.
The shelter, scheduled to open later this year, will include over a dozen beds, a community kitchen, learning lounges, counseling rooms, and a recreational space.
