Duke, Jon Scheyer Dealt Unfortunate Transfer Portal News on Friday

Duke and head coach Jon Scheyer received some tough news Friday.

Veteran center Stanley Borden has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

While Borden hasn’t been a major contributor in the box score, his presence in the locker room and within the Duke community has been undeniable.

The 7-foot senior was a four-time letter winner for the Blue Devils and part of the program’s 2024-25 Final Four run.

Over his four seasons, Borden appeared in five games but never scored a point. Still, his impact on the program extended far beyond the court.

In May 2023, Borden was honored by the ACC as a member of Duke’s Top Six for Service for his community efforts.

He coordinated a 7.8-kilometer run on Duke’s campus to raise money for earthquake relief in Turkey and Syria, a nod to the 7.8 magnitude of one of the quakes that devastated the region.

His efforts earned praise both within and outside the university, reflecting his leadership and selflessness.

Known by teammates and coaches as a “glue guy,” Borden was widely respected inside the Duke program for his energy, attitude, and commitment to team culture.

While he didn’t see regular playing time, his role behind the scenes was considered valuable, especially during postseason stretches where depth, preparation, and chemistry matter most.

His departure is unlikely to shake up Duke’s on-court depth significantly, but it’s a loss that will be felt within the program’s day-to-day environment.

For Scheyer, who’s entering another critical offseason of roster reshuffling and portal recruiting, Borden’s absence removes a quiet leader who helped maintain the culture in Durham
