Duke Freshman Isaiah Evans Turning Heads During Summer Workouts
Duke freshman wing Isaiah Evans is already making waves in Durham before even playing his first official college game. The 6’7” five-star recruit from North Carolina has reportedly impressed coaches, teammates, and insiders during offseason workouts, showcasing the talent and maturity that made him one of the most coveted players in the 2024 recruiting class.
Evans, known for his scoring instincts and smooth shooting stroke, arrived at Duke with high expectations. In early scrimmages and strength sessions, he’s lived up to the hype—demonstrating his ability to create his own shot, shoot from deep, and defend multiple positions with confidence. According to sources close to the program, Evans has already emerged as a vocal presence in team drills and film sessions.
“Isaiah brings a unique energy,” said one member of the coaching staff. “He’s competitive, focused, and really driven to improve. You can tell he wants to be great.”
Head coach Jon Scheyer has made it clear that this new freshman class, which also includes Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel, will play a critical role in shaping Duke’s success this season. Evans, in particular, may have a chance to earn early minutes thanks to his offensive versatility and athleticism.
Evans averaged over 26 points per game during his senior high school season and was a McDonald’s All-American. His high school coach often praised his basketball IQ and ability to lead by example. Now, in the intense environment of Duke basketball, he’s continuing to elevate his game.
While the season is still months away, Evans’ early development is a promising sign for the Blue Devils, who are rebuilding around one of the most talented freshman groups in the nation. If his trajectory continues, Evans could quickly become a fan favorite—and a key contributor in Jon Scheyer’s system.
