“Duke Blue Devils Land 7’5″ Icelandic Phenom: 8th Grader Stuns Scouts by Dunking from Half Court”

Article:

The future of college basketball may have just changed forever—and it’s coming from the icy shores of Iceland.

In a move that has left fans, coaches, and sports scientists speechless, Duke University has secured a verbal commitment from Björgvin Sigurðarson, a 7-foot-5-inch eighth grader from Reykjavík who has already become a viral sensation for one jaw-dropping feat: dunking from the half court line.

Yes, you read that right.

Footage from a recent youth international tournament shows Björgvin casually taking a dribble just past mid-court, launching into the air with staggering hangtime, and hammering the ball into the rim with a thunderous two-handed slam. The video, originally posted by an Icelandic basketball fan page, racked up over 100 million views in just 48 hours. NBA stars, celebrities, and college coaches have all chimed in with disbelief and awe.

“That kid’s not human,” tweeted Giannis Antetokounmpo, while Duke alumnus Kyrie Irving simply wrote: “Coach Scheyer got a cheat code.”

Within days, Duke’s head coach Jon Scheyer confirmed that the program had secured a verbal commitment from the Icelandic giant. At just 14 years old, Björgvin is still years away from NCAA eligibility, but that hasn’t stopped Duke from locking down what many are calling the most unprecedented prospect in basketball history.

“We’ve never seen anything like him,” said Coach Scheyer in a brief media appearance. “His height is one thing, but his coordination, footwork, and raw skill—at 14? It’s not even fair.”

Björgvin reportedly wears a size 22 shoe, has a 10’2″ standing reach, and is still growing. Doctors in Iceland project he could reach 7’8″ by the time he’s 18. Despite his size, reports say he moves like a guard, can handle the ball fluidly, and already has a consistent three-point shot.

Recruiting services have been scrambling to update their rankings. ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports are considering creating a special “Phenom Tier” just for him. An unnamed NBA scout, speaking under condition of anonymity, said:

“If he were 18, he’d be the number one pick tomorrow.”

Of course, questions loom. How will his frame hold up? Can he maintain mobility as he grows? Will NCAA rules even allow this kind of early commitment to hold? For now, none of that matters. What matters is the buzz. What matters is that a middle schooler from Iceland has just changed the landscape of college basketball recruiting—before even taking high school algebra.

Björgvin released a statement through his family saying, “It’s a dream to wear Duke blue. I’ve watched Coach K and the Blue Devils since I was small. I want to bring a championship to Durham.”

With four years until he suits up, fans already can’t wait. One thing is clear:

The Björgvin Era is coming—and it might just be the wildest chapter in Duke history.
