The BYU Cougars are entering the new season with more than just ambitionโtheyโre driven by emotion, past heartbreak, and an unshakable determination to rise. After a rollercoaster season filled with narrow losses and missed opportunities, the Cougars are channeling their pain into purpose, setting their sights on a championship run that promises to redefine their legacy.
Head Coach Kalani Sitake has emphasized growth, unity, and resilience throughout spring camp, rallying his team around a shared goal: to finish what they started. โLast season taught us a lot about who we are,โ Sitake said. โWe faced adversity, but it didnโt break usโit built us. This team is ready to fight.โ
Key returners include quarterback Jake Retzlaff, who now leads the offense with confidence and chemistry, and linebacker Ben Bywater, returning from injury and anchoring a retooled defense. BYUโs roster has also been bolstered by a wave of promising transfers and a highly-rated recruiting class, infusing new energy into the program.
Emotion runs deep in Provo. For many of these players, every snap is personal. The pain of falling short fuels their hunger, while the support of Cougar Nation amplifies their resolve. The locker room is no longer just about talentโitโs about heart, accountability, and redemption.
โOur brotherhood is stronger than ever,โ said senior wide receiver Kody Epps. โWeโre not just playing for winsโweโre playing for each other, for our fans, and for everyone who believes in us.โ
With one eye on the Big 12 title and another on national recognition, BYU is ready to embrace the pressure and chase greatness. The heartbreak of the past is now the foundation of their hopeโand Cougar football is marching forward wit
