The New York Yankees have officially confirmed their coaching staff for the 2024 season under manager Aaron Boone.
Boone is back to manage the Yankees for a sixth season and is under pressure after the team missed the playoffs for the first time under his leadership. The Yankees finished 82-80.
Among the moves the Yankees made this offseason was trading five players to the San Diego Padres for Juan Soto in the All-Star’s final year of control. Soto may become a free agent following the 2024 season.
All of the coaching changes were previously reported, but not publicly announced.
The greatest ‘name’ among the new coaches is Brad Ausmus, who is now the bench coach. He succeeds Carlos Mendoza, who is now manager of the New York Mets.
Ausmus has 17 years of playing experience and five years as a manager, having led the Detroit Tigers to the AL Central title in 2014. He served as Oakland’s bench coach in 2022.
The Yankees have hired James Rowson as their hitting coach. He takes over for Sean Casey, who joined the Yankees’ staff in the middle of the season.
Rowson was the Tigers’ assistant hitting coach in 2023 and had a similar job with the Miami Marlins in 2022-22. He was also the Minnesota Twins’ hitting coach from 2017 to 2019. Before becoming an MLB coach, he was the Yankees’ Minor League hitting coordinator for seven years, and Aaron Judge was one of his pupils.
