Dave Doeren Makes Opening Statement in NC State Football Spring Ball

As the NC State football team embarks on another spring ball season, head coach Dave Doeren took the podium to make his opening statement, setting the tone for what promises to be an important offseason. Entering his 11th season at the helm, Doeren spoke about the team’s focus, the goals for the spring, and the expectations as they prepare for the upcoming 2025 season.

“We’re excited to get back on the field and continue building on what we started last year,” Doeren began, addressing the media and fans in attendance. “Spring ball is a critical time for development, especially for our younger players. We have a lot of talent on this roster, but there are positions that need competition and improvement. Our goal is to see who will step up and earn the opportunity to play come fall.”

Doeren highlighted the importance of developing depth across all positions, particularly after a season where injuries had an impact on their overall performance. With a strong recruiting class coming in, and some key veterans returning, he stressed the importance of a balanced approach that will include a mix of evaluating returning players and integrating new talent into the system.

“The spring is a time for growth,” Doeren continued. “We want to see how well our players can execute under pressure and whether they’re ready to handle the challenges that lie ahead. It’s not just about physical ability, but mental toughness as well. The players need to buy into our culture, and that starts here in the spring.”

One of the key storylines heading into spring ball is the quarterback position. With MJ Morris expected to compete for the starting job, Doeren emphasized the significance of strong leadership under center. “We’ve got some good options at quarterback, and it’s going to be fun to watch how they develop,” Doeren said. “Whoever wins that job will be expected to lead this team and take us to the next level.”

Defensively, NC State is looking to build on a strong 2024 season, with a renewed focus on pass rush and secondary improvement. The defense, led by coordinator Tony Gibson, will have its share of competition, with several spots up for grabs.

Overall, Doeren’s opening statement set an optimistic tone for the program, highlighting the importance of competition, development, and a focused mentality as the Wolfpack prepares for the 2025 season. With the pieces in place, the expectation is clear: NC State is ready to take the next step in the ACC and make a serious push for a top-tier bowl game.
