Alabama Linebacker Deontae Lawson to Miss Spring Practice Due to Knee Injury
In a recent interview with the Crimson Tide Sports Network, Alabama’s starting linebacker Deontae Lawson revealed that he will be absent from all spring practice sessions as he continues to rehabilitate a knee injury sustained during the 2024 season.
Lawson, a junior from Mobile, has been a critical component of the Crimson Tide defense for the past three seasons. However, his participation in the 2025 season will be delayed due to the knee injury he suffered in a devastating November loss to Oklahoma.
“I’ll definitely try to stay around as much as I can, obviously. But, yeah, before I’m active, probably fall camp,” Lawson told CTSN.
Lawson’s injury occurred on November 23 during a game against the Oklahoma Sooners, effectively ending his season. He subsequently missed Alabama’s victory against Auburn in the regular-season finale and their season-ending defeat to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
Despite the setback, Lawson mentioned that he is currently walking and making progress in his rehabilitation, engaging in modified workouts to stay fit.
Throughout the 2024 season, even though he couldn’t complete it, Lawson managed to amass 76 tackles, including 36 solo tackles. His performance also included 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. Additionally, Lawson recorded his first career interception and defended 4 passes.
As the Alabama defense gears up for the 2025 season, Lawson’s presence will be sorely missed during spring practice. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about his return and is expected to play a significant role once more in the upcoming season, bringing his tenacity and skill back to the Crimson Tide defense.
