On Saturday evening, former Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton was appointed as the Detroit Lions’ linebacker coach, following his previous role as the assistant linebackers coach.
Hamilton’s football journey began at Alabama, where he played from 2014 to 2017, contributing to two national championship victories in 2015 and 2017. During his four seasons with the Crimson Tide, he accumulated impressive stats, including 104 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions.
After completing his senior season, Hamilton entered the NFL and was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders (formerly the Washington Redskins). He played with the Commanders for three seasons before joining the Detroit Lions for his final season in the league.
Hamilton embarked on his coaching career in 2022, beginning as a defensive assistant with the Lions. Since then, he has steadily advanced within the coaching staff. With the Lions achieving their best season in franchise history, Hamilton’s promotion to linebacker coach signifies a significant step forward in his career, presenting him with a promising opportunity to further establish himself in the coaching ranks.
