Historic Double for Jordy Bahl: Named Big Ten Pitcher and Player of the Year
Nebraska softball sensation Jordy Bahl has achieved an unprecedented feat in Big Ten Conference history, earning the distinction of both Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and Big Ten Player of the Year in the same season. The announcement, made today, Friday, May 9, 2025, underscores Bahl’s exceptional talent and her monumental impact on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Bahl becomes the first player in the history of the Big Ten to capture both of these prestigious awards simultaneously. While three other phenomenal athletes – Sara Griffin and Nikki Nemitz of Michigan, and Sara Groenewegen of Minnesota – have earned both honors during their careers, none accomplished this remarkable double in a single season.
The junior right-handed pitcher and utility player has been a dominant force for the Huskers throughout the 2025 campaign. In the circle, Bahl has posted a stellar 23-5 record with an incredibly low 1.46 ERA. Her ability to command the strike zone is evident in her remarkable 243 strikeouts across 168.1 innings pitched, leading the Big Ten in this category. Opponents have struggled mightily against her, managing a meager .149 batting average against the reigning Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. Notably, this marks Bahl’s third conference pitcher of the year award, having previously earned the same honor in the Big 12 in 2022 and 2023 during her time at Oklahoma.
However, Bahl’s influence extends far beyond her pitching prowess. As a key offensive contributor for the Cornhuskers, she boasts a team-leading .467 batting average with a staggering 19 home runs and 59 RBIs. Her offensive capabilities place her among the elite hitters in the entire conference, ranking high in categories such as hits (71), runs scored (61), doubles (16), and slugging percentage (.974). In Big Ten play alone, Bahl tied for the league lead with 32 RBIs.
This historic recognition adds to Bahl’s already impressive collection of accolades, which includes being named the NFCA National Freshman of the Year in 2022 and earning Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2023 Women’s College World Series, where she secured one of her two national championships with Oklahoma.
Jordy Bahl’s unprecedented achievement as the Big Ten Pitcher and Player of the Year in the same season is a testament to her exceptional skill, unwavering dedication, and relentless work ethic. She has not only etched her name in Big Ten history but has also solidified her status as one of the most dynamic and impactful players in college softball today. As the Huskers continue their journey in the postseason, Bahl’s continued brilliance will be pivotal to their success.
