In a remarkable debut season, Texas A&M head football coach Mike Elko has been honored with the 2024 Home Depot Coach of the Year award. This prestigious recognition underscores Elko’s transformative impact on the Aggies, propelling them into national title contention and revitalizing the program’s competitive stature.
Elko returned to College Station in November 2023, taking the helm after a successful stint as Duke’s head coach, where he earned ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2022. His familiarity with Texas A&M, having previously served as the Aggies’ defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, provided a solid foundation for his leadership.
Under Elko’s guidance, Texas A&M achieved an impressive 8–5 overall record, including a 5–3 mark in SEC play. Notably, the Aggies secured significant victories over top-10 opponents, marking their best start in SEC play in program history.
Elko’s coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, accountability, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field. His leadership has not only improved on-field performance but also fostered a culture of integrity and academic achievement among his players.
