Concern Grows in Miami as Bill Simmons Highlights Kevin Durant’s ‘Alarming’ Courtside Behavior

The Miami Heat’s blockbuster acquisition of Kevin Durant sent shockwaves through the NBA, but just days into his South Beach arrival, new concerns are emerging—this time off the court. NBA analyst and podcast host Bill Simmons has stirred discussion after pointing out what he calls “alarming” behavior from Durant during a recent Heat home game.

Simmons, speaking on The Bill Simmons Podcast, described Durant as “disengaged” and “emotionally distant” while seated courtside—raising eyebrows among fans and analysts alike. “He wasn’t locked in,” Simmons said. “You watch KD during games—he’s usually studying, focused, mentally preparing. This time? He looked like he didn’t want to be there.”

The clip Simmons referred to showed Durant scrolling his phone mid-game, showing minimal interaction with teammates or staff. While some dismissed it as harmless downtime, others see it as a sign of potential tension or uncertainty in his transition to Miami.

For a franchise like the Heat—known for its culture of intensity, unity, and professionalism—Durant’s demeanor could be interpreted as out of sync with the team’s ethos. It also raises concerns about how quickly he’ll buy in, especially after a string of quick stops in Brooklyn and Phoenix.

Still, Miami leadership remains confident. “Kevin’s a pro,” Coach Erik Spoelstra said when asked about the courtside moment. “He’s adjusting, like any player would. We know what he brings.”

Whether this is a minor blip or an early red flag remains to be seen. For now, the Heat and their fans are hoping that once Durant laces up in Miami red and black, the focus will return to basketball—and banners.
