Manny Machado, the San Diego Padres’ star third baseman, has agreed to a four-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2028 season.

The new deal, worth $140 million, will keep Machado in Padres colors for the foreseeable future and demonstrates the team’s commitment to retaining key players.

Machado, who initially joined the Padres in 2019 on a 10-year, $300 million deal, has been a cornerstone of the team’s lineup.

His blend of power hitting and exceptional defensive skills has been instrumental in the Padres’ recent successes.

Over the previous few seasons, Machado has routinely been an All-Star and has played a crucial part in the team’s pursuit of a World Series championship. The extension also comes on the heels
