Coach Lee Cummard Highlights Summer Progress and BYU’s Recruiting Vision
As the BYU Women’s Basketball program continues its offseason preparations, head coach Lee Cummard is setting a clear tone: development, culture, and recruiting are top priorities this summer. In a recent update, Cummard outlined the program’s focus on individual player growth and how that aligns with the team’s long-term recruiting strategy in the Big 12.
With the Cougars preparing for their second season in one of college basketball’s most competitive conferences, Cummard stressed the importance of offseason improvement. “This is where we lay the foundation,” he said. “We’ve been working on skill development, strength, conditioning, and building chemistry.”
The coaching staff has been hands-on with returning players, evaluating their performance from last season and customizing training plans to elevate their game. Key areas of emphasis include shooting efficiency, defensive versatility, and increased physicality—must-haves in the grind of Big 12 play.
In addition to player development, Cummard has his eyes firmly set on the recruiting trail. BYU’s move to the Big 12 has opened doors to new regions and a deeper talent pool. Cummard emphasized recruiting players who not only have athletic talent but also align with BYU’s values and culture.
“We’re looking for the right fits—athletes who buy into our system, love the game, and represent BYU on and off the court,” he explained. “It’s about building something sustainable.”
The program has already attracted attention from several high-profile recruits, and upcoming visits this summer will be crucial. With a growing national profile, a modern facility, and a dynamic coaching staff, BYU is positioning itself as a top destination for elite women’s basketball talent.
As the summer rolls on, Cougar fans can feel confident that the future is in focused and capable hands.
