Clemson Basketball’s Newest Post Transfers Building Chemistry Off the Court

Clemson men’s basketball is undergoing a significant transformation, with head coach Brad Brownell leveraging the transfer portal to reshape his roster. This influx of ne talent has not only bolstered the team’s on-court capabilities but also provided an opportunity to foster chemistry among players, both on and off the court. 

 

Building Team Chemistry Through Shared Experiences

 

Recognizing the importance of team cohesion, Coach Brownell has emphasized the value of shared experiences to integrate new players into the Clemson culture. In the summer of 2025, the Tigers embarked on a trip to Spain, playing four games against local teams. This international exposure allowed players to bond in a setting away from the pressures of the regular season, helping them to understand each other’s playing styles and personalities .

 

Additionally, the return of former Clemson forward RJ Godfrey added a layer of continuity to the team. Having previously played for the Tigers, Godfrey’s familiarity with the system and culture facilitated a smoother reintegration process, serving as a bridge between returning players and newcomers .

 

Leadership and Mentorship

 

Veteran players like Chase Hunter and Ian Schieffelin have stepped into leadership roles, guiding the newer members of the team. Their experience and understanding of Coach Brownell’s expectations have been instrumental in mentoring the incoming transfers, ensuring they adapt quickly to the team’s dynamics .

 

The addition of experienced transfers such as Jaeden Zackery, Viktor Lakhin, and Efrem “Butta” Johnson has further strengthened the team’s leadership core. Zackery’s two-way presence in the backcourt, Lakhin’s scoring and rebounding in the paint, and Johnson’s scoring ability provide the Tigers with a mix of leadership and experience that is crucial for building team chemistry .
