According to rumors, Tottenham Hotspur would profit financially if Sunderland’s Jack Clarke returns to the Premier League, despite interest from West Ham.
Tottenham spent roughly £11 million to purchase the 23-year-old from Leeds United in 2019, but he was sold to Sunderland on a permanent basis in 2022 after failing to make a single Premier League appearance.

Clarke has rebuilt his name at Sunderland, where he has been one of the greatest players in the Championship over the last few seasons. He has 24 goals and 20 assists in 94 games for the Black Cats.
Clarke, who was extensively connected with Burnley in the summer, stayed with Sunderland, but he is now garnering interest from numerous Premier League teams after scoring 12 goals in 26 Championship outings this season.
Earlier this week, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie stated that “it would take an offer Sunderland can’t refuse in January” to land him, and that West Ham are “interested”.
Downie added: “A few of other teams are sniffing around. A few of Premier League clubs, and I believe there is interest from Germany and France.
“Sunderland would attempt to cash in. I cannot see him going for anything less than £15 million.
“Given Sunderland’s position in the Championship, they have a possibility of nicking a play-off place and getting themselves back up to the Premier League; I think they can only achieve that with Jack Clarke; he’s their greatest player, and they will want to get a whole season out of him.
According to Football London, ‘Tottenham will gain from any sale’ since, while the north London club only sold him for roughly £750,000, without add-ons, they did include a 25% sell-on clause in the transaction. The report adds.
‘His performances as Sunderland’s leading scorer this season have continued to pique the interest of other Premier League teams. Burnley sought to recruit him last season and supposedly had a £15 million deal rejected, and now West Ham and Crystal Palace, among other Premier League teams, are rumored to be interested in the teenage attacker.’
Reports have suggested that Sunderland might be tempted by a bid north of £20million for Clarke, although the feeling around the club is that a mid-season move is less likely than one next summer.’
A report from Football Insider meanwhile reveals why Clarke may be reluctant to secure a move back to London after his horror spell with Tottenham. They explain
