Chris Henry Jr. Poised to Excel Under Hartline

Standing at an impressive 6-foot-6, Henry drew interest from top programs nationwide, earning offers from powerhouse schools such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas, and Big Ten champion Oregon. However, Hartline’s recruiting success helped Ohio State win the battle for the No. 1 overall prospect in California’s 2026 class, according to 247Sports.

Hartline has a proven track record of developing elite receivers, having mentored NFL stars like Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr., Terry McLaurin, and Emeka Egbuka. Most recently, he coached freshman sensation Jeremiah Smith, who played a key role in Ohio State’s national championship run.

Henry and Smith could form a dynamic receiving duo for the Buckeyes in 2026, as Smith won’t be eligible for the NFL Draft until 2027. With Hartline now leading the offense, Henry is confident in the direction Ohio State is headed.

As the Buckeyes look toward the future, their latest coaching move seems to have solidified Henry’s commitment—for now. However, with National Signing Day still months away, his recruitment will remain a storyline to watch.

Ohio State Promotes Brian Hartline to Offensive Coordinator

Ohio State has officially promoted wide receivers coach Brian Hartline to offensive coordinator, according to a report from On3.

Hartline steps into the role after Chip Kelly left the Buckeyes to become the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, following just one season with Ohio State. The move has raised questions about who will take on the primary play-calling duties in 2025. Hartline held the title of offensive coordinator during the 2023 season, but head coach Ryan Day took charge of the play-calling.

Hartline has been with the Buckeyes since 2017 and was promoted to wide receivers coach in 2018. His coaching success and reputation for developing top-tier receivers made him a natural choice to move into this new role.

Additionally, Ohio State is expected to promote Billy Fessler from his current analyst position to quarterbacks coach. The team is also set to hire Tyler Bowen, the offensive coordinator from Virginia Tech, as the new offensive line coach and run game coordinator. Bowen will replace Justin Frye, who left for the offensive line job with the Arizona Cardinals.
