J.T. Barrett, the former Ohio State quarterback, is continuing his ascent in NFL coaching. According to multiple national reports, Barrett has joined the Chicago Bears as the team new quarterbacks coach under head coach Ben Johnson. Barrett has worked closely with Johnson in the past, serving on the Detroit Lions staff for three years. He started as an offensive assistant in 2022 before being promoted to assistant quarterbacks coach in 2023, a role he held in 2024.
As the Bears  quarterbacks coach, Barrett will be responsible for developing Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Barrett coaching career began in 2022 after a brief stint with the CFL Edmonton Elks. His NFL playing career included short tenures with the New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and Pittsburgh Steelers, though he never appeared in a regular-season game.
Barrett legacy at Ohio State is well-established. A three-time first-team All-Big Ten selection and the Big Ten 2016 Most Valuable Player, he led the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2014. Barrett is Ohio State all-time leader in passing yards and remains the Big Ten record-holder for both passing and total touchdowns.
