Recent Development; Chelsea confirms their European Super League stance with a statement on fresh suggestions.

Chelsea have released a statement confirming their position has not changed regarding the European Super League after new proposals were brought forward this Thursday.Chelsea issued a statement following the European Court of Justice’s latest suggestions for the European Super League. The club acknowledged in the statement that their attitude has not changed since they withdrew out of the first plans in April 2021.

“The decision issued today by the European Court of Justice does not modify Chelsea FC’s position,” a statement said. “All of us are convinced that, by working with the Premier League, The FA, other European clubs through our profound connection with the ECA, and with UEFA and FIFA, we can, together, continue growing the European game for the benefit of everyone.”

It was stated earlier today that a new 64-team format will have no permanent members after the European Court of Justice ruled that FIFA and UEFA’s blockage of the competition being founded was illegal. Several teams, including Chelsea, have since stated their positions remain unchanged.

Early in April 2021, the first idea for the European Super League was received with national outrage. Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Chelsea all withdrew from the plans.

At the time of writing today (Thursday), the majority, but not all, of the aforementioned clubs have issued comments stating that their attitude has not altered despite the new ideas. The latest idea, on the other hand, appears to be rather different.

It will have both men’s and women’s football leagues. There was no mention of women’s football being featured in earlier plans. There will be leagues as well, with promotion and relegation – something that was not mentioned last time.

More News:  Before their match against Newcastle United, Mauricio Pochettino expresses "doubt" about a Chelsea star's fitness.

The tournament would be three-tiered, with 16 clubs in each of the top two categories (the ‘Star League’ and the ‘Gold League’). The ‘Blue League,’ the third tier, would consist of 32 clubs, with promotion and relegation between levels.

Each team would play home and away matches in groups of eight, for a total of 14 matches every year until the end of the season, when a knockout round would select both the champions of each league and the clubs to be promoted.

The Super League proposal also states that there would be no increase in match calendar days ‘beyond those envisioned by existing competitions’ and that any midweek matches will not conflict with other domestic tournaments that may be played on the same days.
