In a surprising twist, Jim Harbaugh, former Michigan Wolverines head coach and now at the helm of the Los Angeles Chargers, could be looking to add an Ohio State player to his roster for the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite the rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State, Harbaugh’s connection with the Buckeyes may become pivotal as the Chargers focus on strengthening their backfield.
While the Chargers did not select an Ohio State player in the 2024 draft, they did sign former Buckeye J.K. Dobbins, whose success has likely softened Harbaugh’s stance on former rivals. Now, with Quinshon Judkins declaring early for the 2025 draft, the Chargers may set their sights on the talented running back to bolster their rushing attack.
Judkins, a junior at Ohio State, has shown promise as a physical, downhill runner, making him a great fit for the Chargers’ offense under Greg Roman. Roman’s system relies on a solid ground game, and after an inconsistent 2024 season, the Chargers are eager to improve in that department. While Dobbins is expected to continue contributing, the Chargers must also plan for the future, especially given the unpredictable nature of a running back’s longevity in the NFL.
Although Judkins might not possess the explosive speed of some other draft prospects, his ability to break through tackles and fight for yards would make him a valuable asset to the Chargers. With the team needing to address several roster needs, taking Judkins in the second round may not be ideal, but if he slips to the third, it could be too good an opportunity to pass up. If Dobbins returns, Judkins would be a strong complementary back, with the potential to evolve into a lead runner down the line.
