Cedric Coward Forgoes College Eligibility, Declares for 2025 NBA Draft

In a bold and inspiring move, Cedric Coward, a rising star from Washington State, has officially declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, choosing to forgo his remaining college eligibility. Once considered an underdog, Coward’s journey from Division III standout to legitimate NBA prospect is nothing short of remarkable.

Coward began his collegiate career at Willamette University, a Division III program, where he averaged 19.4 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. After earning Freshman of the Year honors, he transferred to Eastern Washington and later to Washington State, where he emerged as one of the most impactful players in the Pac-12. In just six games before a shoulder injury cut his season short, Coward averaged an impressive 17.7 points and 7.0 rebounds.

Despite the injury, Coward’s NBA stock has surged thanks to a strong showing at the NBA Draft Combine. Scouts were impressed with his elite athleticism, 7-foot-2 wingspan, and defensive versatility. He’s now projected as a potential second-round pick, with ESPN forecasting him going 35th overall to the Philadelphia 76ers.

However, Coward may be on the Miami Heat’s radar, as they hold the 20th overall pick. Known for finding hidden gems, the Heat could see Coward’s two-way potential as a perfect fit. His high motor, rebounding ability, and improved offensive skill set make him an ideal project player with upside.

Coward’s decision to remain in the draft highlights his confidence and determination to succeed at the highest level. From DIII gym floors to NBA arenas, his story is a testament to resilience, development, and belief. Whether he hears his name called in the first or second round, Cedric Coward has already defied expectations—and he’s just getting started.
