BATON ROUGE, La. — In a move that has Tiger Nation roaring with excitement, LSU football legend Tommy Casanova has returned to his alma mater, taking on the role of Special Assistant to the Athletic Director. This appointment marks a significant homecoming for one of the most celebrated figures in LSU’s storied athletic history.
Casanova, a three-time All-American and College Football Hall of Famer, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever to don the purple and gold. During his tenure from 1969 to 1971, he showcased unparalleled versatility, excelling as a defensive back, running back, and return specialist. His standout performances, including tying an NCAA record with two punt return touchdowns in a single game against Ole Miss in 1970, cemented his legacy as a Tiger legend.
Beyond his collegiate achievements, Casanova enjoyed a successful professional career with the Cincinnati Bengals, earning three Pro Bowl selections. Following his time in the NFL, he served as a Louisiana State Senator from 1996 to 2000, demonstrating his commitment to public service.
