Carson Beck’s High School Coach Criticizes Georgia’s Treatment of New Miami QB

In a stunning turn of events, Carson Beck’s high school coach has publicly criticized the University of Georgia for the way it treated Beck’s former teammate and now Miami quarterback, Jaden Rashada. Rashada, who was once a highly touted recruit in Georgia’s class, made waves when he transferred from Georgia after a tumultuous few months in Athens. His departure has sparked debate, with Beck’s coach offering an unusually candid take on the situation.

Jaden Rashada, a highly ranked recruit from California, initially committed to Georgia but decommitted after a series of recruitment changes. The quarterback’s move to Georgia was celebrated by many as a major coup for head coach Kirby Smart, but Rashada’s time with the Bulldogs was short-lived. After transferring to Miami, he became embroiled in one of the most high-profile quarterback battles in college football.

For Carson Beck, Rashada’s sudden departure became a reminder of the sometimes unforgiving nature of major college football programs. Beck, who had played alongside Rashada during their high school days at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida, found himself in the position of being Georgia’s starting quarterback after a long period of waiting. But in an interview with local media, Beck’s high school coach, Adam Geis, spoke out about how Georgia’s handling of the situation may have contributed to Rashada’s transfer and decision to leave the program.

Geis, who was instrumental in both Beck’s and Rashada’s development as quarterbacks, discussed how Georgia’s approach to handling its quarterback room might have been a contributing factor in Rashada’s departure. According to Geis, the Bulldogs failed to properly manage Rashada’s expectations and failed to give him a fair chance to compete for the starting role.

“From what I’ve heard and seen, Georgia put Jaden in a situation where he felt like his chance was slipping away, and there was no clear path forward,” Geis explained. “When a program as big as Georgia isn’t willing to give you a shot or let you compete for a job, it’s a tough spot for any young player.”

In contrast to Beck’s more patient route to earning the starting quarterback spot, which included learning behind Stetson Bennett and waiting for his time, Rashada found himself caught up in a crowded quarterback room with little room for clarity. Beck’s journey has been one of gradual growth, with his work ethic and leadership earning him the role of starting quarterback for Georgia in 2025. But Rashada, according to Geis, needed a more supportive environment, and Georgia’s handling of his situation failed to provide that.

As a result, Rashada chose to transfer, eventually finding a fresh start at Miami, where he could compete for the starting role without the shadow of Georgia’s high expectations hanging over him. In his new environment, Rashada’s potential could flourish in a system that better aligns with his style of play.

Geis didn’t mince words when discussing how big-time programs, like Georgia, handle elite recruits. “It’s all about competition, and it should be. But there’s a way to do it that encourages growth, not stifles it,” he said. “Not every player thrives under the same circumstances, and programs need to remember that.”

While Georgia remains a perennial powerhouse in college football, the treatment of its recruits — particularly quarterbacks — has raised some eyebrows. As Beck steps into the spotlight at Georgia, and Rashada looks to make his mark at Miami, the contrast in their paths offers a cautionary tale about the fine line between nurturing talent and pushing it away.
