Carnell Tate has officially decided to stay with Ohio State, putting an end to the rumors surrounding his potential transfer. After a week of speculation about Tate’s interest in entering the transfer portal, a source confirmed to Eleven Warriors that Tate is committed to remaining with the Buckeyes. This was also reflected by both Tate’s and Ohio State’s social media posts.
The rumors about Tate’s potential move gained traction after a report revealed that Tate had been offered over $1 million to enter the portal. Although there had been talk all week about Tate exploring the option of transferring to become a No. 1 receiver elsewhere, he has now committed to staying in Columbus. He will join fellow wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who also decided to stay at Ohio State despite being offered $4.5 million to transfer.
Over his first two seasons with the Buckeyes, Tate has amassed 70 receptions for 997 yards and five touchdowns. He started nearly every game in 2024, finishing with 52 catches for 733 yards and four touchdowns, including standout performances such as two touchdowns in Chicago and seven catches for 87 yards in the Cotton Bowl.
Tate, along with Smith, is expected to be a key part of Ohio State’s 2025 wide receiver corps, potentially joined by Brandon Inniss, a junior who was Ohio State’s No. 4 receiver this past season.
