Captain jordybahl becomes the first player in history to win Big Ten Pitcher & Player of the Year honors in the same season

Unprecedented Double: Jordy Bahl Achieves Historic Big Ten Honors

In a feat never before witnessed in the annals of Big Ten softball, Nebraska junior Jordy Bahl has etched her name into the history books by becoming the first player to be named both the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year in the same season. This unprecedented achievement underscores Bahl’s exceptional talent and her transformative impact on the Nebraska Cornhuskers program.

Bahl’s dominance in the 2025 season has been nothing short of extraordinary. In the circle, she has been the undisputed ace for the Huskers, posting a stellar 23-5 record with a microscopic 1.49 ERA. Her command and strikeout prowess have bewildered opposing hitters, as evidenced by her impressive tally of 234 strikeouts in 163.1 innings pitched. This marks her third conference pitcher of the year honor, having previously earned the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year accolades in both 2022 and 2023 during her time at Oklahoma.

However, Bahl’s contributions extend far beyond her pitching prowess. As a versatile player who has seen time at first base, left field, center field, and designated player, she has also been a force to be reckoned with at the plate. Her offensive statistics are staggering for a pitcher, boasting a team-leading .467 batting average with 19 home runs and 59 RBIs. She ranks among the top offensive players in the entire Big Ten conference in multiple categories, showcasing her rare two-way abilities.

Prior to this historic double honor, only three other players in Big Ten history had earned both Pitcher and Player of the Year awards in their careers: Sara Griffin and Nikki Nemitz of Michigan, and Sara Groenewegen of Minnesota. However, none of them achieved this remarkable feat in the same season, further highlighting the uniqueness of Bahl’s accomplishment.

Bahl’s journey to this historic moment has been marked by both triumph and adversity. After transferring to Nebraska in 2024, her debut season was cut short by an ACL injury. However, her resilience and determination have been evident in her remarkable comeback and her stellar performance throughout the 2025 season.

This recognition is not the first for Bahl, who was also named the NFCA National Freshman of the Year in 2022 while at Oklahoma. Her trophy cabinet already includes two Women’s College World Series championships (2022, 2023) and the 2023 Women’s College World Series Most Outstanding Player award.

Jordy Bahl’s historic achievement as the Big Ten Pitcher and Player of the Year in the same season is a testament to her exceptional talent, unwavering dedication, and relentless work ethic. She has not only made history for the Big Ten Conference but has also solidified her place as one of the most dominant and versatile players in college softball today. As Nebraska continues its journey in the Big Ten Tournament, Bahl’s continued excellence will be crucial in their pursuit of further success.
