BYU Women’s Basketball Guard Rose Bubakar Transfers to Colorado Buffaloes
In a significant offseason move, BYU women’s basketball guard Rose Bubakar has officially committed to the University of Colorado, adding experience and versatility to the Buffaloes’ backcourt. Bubakar entered the transfer portal following the 2023–24 season and chose Colorado for its competitive Pac-12 environment and strong coaching staff.
Bubakar, known for her two-way game and on-court tenacity, played three seasons with the Cougars. She averaged 6.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game last season, often drawing tough defensive assignments while also contributing key baskets in crunch time. Her energy, leadership, and hustle made her a fan favorite at BYU, and her departure marks another major transition for a program undergoing a significant roster overhaul.
In a statement on social media, Bubakar thanked BYU for “unwavering support and unforgettable memories,” but emphasized her excitement to join Colorado and “grow as a player and person in a new environment.” She also mentioned that the Buffaloes’ up-tempo system and development track record made the program a perfect fit for her final year of eligibility.
Colorado head coach JR Payne praised Bubakar’s competitive spirit and defensive mindset, noting that she would be “an immediate impact player” for the Buffaloes as they look to return to the NCAA Tournament. Bubakar is expected to play a hybrid guard/wing role, offering flexibility on both ends of the floor.
For BYU, the loss of Bubakar is part of a broader shift as head coach Amber Whiting continues to retool the roster after a challenging Big 12 debut season. While Bubakar’s presence will be missed, her success at Colorado could reflect positively on BYU’s ability to develop talent capable of competing in top-tier conferences.
Bubakar will be eligible to suit up for Colorado in the 2024–25 season.
