BYU Lands Former Michigan State OL Kevin Wigenton
BYU Football has made another important move through the transfer portal, securing former Michigan State offensive lineman Kevin Wigenton. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound junior brings Big Ten experience, physicality, and much-needed depth to BYU’s offensive front as the Cougars continue to fortify their trenches ahead of the 2025 season.
Wigenton, a former three-star recruit from New Jersey, spent the last three seasons with the Spartans. While he didn’t earn a consistent starting role at Michigan State, he saw rotational snaps and was praised for his work ethic and development under a high-level Big Ten program. Known for his strong hands and solid technique, Wigenton is expected to compete for immediate playing time at BYU, particularly at the guard position.
“I chose BYU because of the culture, the coaching staff, and the opportunity to make an impact right away,” Wigenton said following his commitment. “I believe in what Coach Sitake and Coach Funk are building, and I’m excited to be part of something special.”
The Cougars have emphasized rebuilding the offensive line following a 2024 campaign that saw inconsistency and injuries hamper production in both the run and pass game. Wigenton’s arrival adds a physical, experienced presence who can help mentor younger players while pushing for a starting role.
Offensive line coach Darrell Funk praised Wigenton’s versatility: “He’s got the size and the smarts. He can play both guard and tackle if needed. Kevin’s going to raise the level of competition across our line.”
Wigenton is expected to participate in team workouts this summer and be a full participant in fall camp. His addition is part of a larger effort by BYU to retool in the Big 12 and return to bowl contention after a rebuilding 2024 season.
