BYU gets massive commitment from former Oregon recruit

BYU Lands Massive Commitment from Former Oregon Recruit in Shocking Turnaround

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the college football world, Brigham Young University (BYU) has secured a stunning commitment from four-star wide receiver Malik “Jet” Rawlins, a former top Oregon recruit who decommitted from the Ducks just two weeks ago. The 6’2”, 195-pound phenom out of Long Beach, California, cited “faith, family, and future” as the guiding forces behind his decision to trade green and yellow for Cougar blue.

Rawlins, widely regarded as one of the most explosive receivers in the 2025 class, had verbally committed to Oregon last fall. He was often seen on the sidelines of Autzen Stadium, decked out in Ducks gear, chatting with coaches and future teammates. His highlight reel—featuring gravity-defying catches, blistering 4.39 speed, and ankle-breaking route running—quickly made him a fan favorite before he ever set foot on campus.

That all changed last week when Rawlins posted a cryptic message on Instagram: a picture of Provo’s mountainous skyline, captioned simply, “New roads. New light.” Rumors swirled. BYU insiders claimed a silent commitment was in place. Oregon fans dismissed the notion as internet chatter. But the silence broke Monday morning when Rawlins made it official during a surprise press conference at Long Beach Poly.

“People asked why BYU? For me, it’s about purpose,” Rawlins said, flanked by his parents and wearing a navy BYU hat. “I’ve seen the glitz. I’ve seen the hype. But I want to be part of something real. Coach Sitake and his staff didn’t just recruit me—they believed in me.”

Sources close to Rawlins say the turning point came during a quiet visit to Provo in early April. He reportedly met with former Cougar greats, attended a devotional on campus, and spent hours with BYU receivers coach Fesi Sitake breaking down game film. “They didn’t promise me the world,” Rawlins said, “They promised me work, brotherhood, and faith. That hit different.”

The commitment is one of BYU’s biggest recruiting victories in recent memory. Recruiting analyst Jarrett Holden called it “a seismic shift for BYU’s offensive future,” noting that Rawlins is the highest-rated wide receiver to ever commit to the program directly out of high school.

Oregon, meanwhile, is scrambling to regroup. Head coach Dan Lanning issued a brief statement: “We wish Malik the best. We’ll continue building with the guys who want to be here.”

For BYU, Rawlins represents more than just a top-tier athlete—he symbolizes a new era. The Cougars, preparing for their second year in the Big 12, are now sending a clear message: they can compete on the national stage for elite talent.

As Rawlins ended his press conference, he turned to the crowd with a grin. “Provo,” he said, “get ready. The Jet is landing.”
