BYU Forward Rose Bubakar Commits to Auburn, Citing Development and SEC Competition
Former BYU women’s basketball forward Rose Bubakar has announced her transfer to Auburn University, marking a significant move as she transitions from the Big 12 to the powerhouse Southeastern Conference (SEC). The junior forward made the decision after entering the NCAA transfer portal this spring, seeking a new opportunity to elevate her game and compete at a higher level.
Bubakar, who started multiple games for the Cougars during the 2023–24 season, was known for her physical presence, rebounding ability, and defensive versatility. She averaged 6.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while showcasing strong leadership on and off the court. Her grit and hustle made her a dependable piece of BYU’s frontcourt rotation.
In a statement following her commitment to Auburn, Bubakar expressed excitement about joining the Tigers, noting the program’s competitive culture, strong coaching staff, and emphasis on player development. “I’m grateful for everything at BYU, but I’m ready for a new challenge in a league that will push me every night,” she said.
For Auburn, Bubakar brings experience, toughness, and a team-first mentality — qualities that align well with head coach Johnnie Harris’ vision for the program. As the Tigers aim to climb the SEC standings, adding a versatile forward like Bubakar will be key to building frontcourt depth and physicality.
BYU, meanwhile, continues to navigate a rebuilding phase marked by coaching changes and roster turnover. Bubakar’s departure is one of several high-profile exits through the transfer portal, forcing the program to lean on young talent and incoming recruits. Though her presence will be missed in Provo, Bubakar leaves behind a legacy of effort and integrity — and now looks ahead to proving herself on one of college basketball’s biggest stages.
