While the 105 roster limit impacts every program in the nation since its implementation, Kalani Sitake and the BYU Cougars are the latest group to suffer a significant setback.
On Saturday, one particular commitment in the Class of 2025 is electing to leave the program after spending just one semester with the program.
Freshman running back Cale Breslin announced his intention to hit the portal with a detailed social media post on X.
“I appreciate everything BYU has done for me, especially the coaching staff and Coach Harvey,” Breslin said. “After careful consideration with my family, I’ve decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal on April 16. I have four years of eligibility left and look forward to the next chapter.”
Coming out of Faith Lutheran High School in the Class of 2025, Breslin was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1497th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 113th-ranked player at his position and the 12th-ranked player in the state of Nevada.
“Breslin is one of the top backs in the state and has been since his sophomore year,” 247Sports’ Greg Biggins wrote. “He has good initial quickness and burst and can hit his top gear after just a few strides. He’s probably more quick than fast but does show the ability to out-run a secondary at the HS level. He has excellent vision and patience and you does a nice job waiting for holes to develop and then exploding through.”
