BYU Football Lands Former Oregon State OL Marcus Harper II from Transfer Portal
BYU’s offensive line just received a major boost with the addition of former Oregon State standout Marcus Harper II, who has committed to the Cougars via the NCAA transfer portal. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman brings Power Five experience and versatility to a BYU front that is undergoing a significant overhaul ahead of the 2025 season.
Harper started 10 games at left guard for Oregon State during the 2023 season and was a key part of an offensive line that ranked among the Pac-12’s best in rushing efficiency. Known for his strong base, hand technique, and ability to anchor against elite defensive linemen, Harper was widely viewed as one of the top interior linemen available in the transfer portal.
With the Cougars preparing for their second season in the Big 12, adding experienced linemen who can handle high-level competition was a priority. Harper’s transfer aligns perfectly with head coach Kalani Sitake’s focus on establishing a more physical, consistent presence in the trenches after a challenging 2024 campaign.
Harper chose BYU over reported interest from Texas Tech, Michigan State, and Arizona State. He cited BYU’s academic reputation, player development, and faith-based environment as top factors in his decision.
“I’ve followed BYU for a while now, and I love the culture here. They play with toughness, discipline, and heart. I’m excited to be a part of that,” Harper said in a statement.
Harper is expected to compete immediately for a starting role, likely at either guard position. His arrival adds leadership and maturity to an offensive line group that includes several promising underclassmen.
This portal win reinforces BYU’s growing appeal as a transfer destination and reflects the staff’s strategic approach to rebuilding key position groups with battle-tested talent.
