BYU Football Adds Eight from Transfer Portal, Highlighting DL and OL Boost
BYU football continues to revamp its roster ahead of the 2025 season, adding eight new players through the NCAA transfer portal. Head coach Kalani Sitake and his staff focused heavily on strengthening both sides of the line of scrimmage—an area that showed clear weaknesses during the Cougars’ first year in the Big 12.
Among the most notable additions is Keanu Tanuvasa, a defensive lineman transferring in from rival Utah. Tanuvasa brings size, power, and valuable Pac-12 experience to a BYU defensive front looking to get tougher in the trenches. On the offensive side, BYU landed Andrew Gentry, a former top recruit who spent time at Michigan. Gentry’s arrival is seen as a major win for the Cougars, who struggled at times to protect the quarterback and open up the run game last season.
Joining Gentry on the offensive line is Kyle Sfarcioc, a reliable and experienced lineman from Southern Utah. Together, this duo is expected to bring depth, versatility, and leadership to a unit that must hold up better against the physicality of Big 12 defenses.
In total, the eight-man transfer class includes players from power conferences and proven FCS programs, showing BYU’s ability to compete in the transfer market. The staff prioritized size, toughness, and immediate impact, which reflects their urgent approach to turning the program around.
With year two in the Big 12 approaching, this portal haul could be a defining moment for the Cougars. If these additions can mesh quickly and stay healthy, BYU has the pieces to become a much more physical and balanced team—key ingredients for success in one of college football’s toughest conferences.
The message is clear: BYU isn’t rebuilding. They’re reloading.
