BYU Cracks Top 25 in Directors’ Cup Standings for Second Time Since 2021
Brigham Young University (BYU) has once again secured a spot among the nation’s elite athletic programs, finishing in the top 25 of the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings for the second time since 2021. This prestigious ranking, which evaluates the overall success of collegiate athletic departments based on postseason performance, is a testament to BYU’s consistent excellence across a wide range of sports.
The Cougars’ 2024 performance marks a continued upward trend for the university’s athletic department, which has invested heavily in both coaching and facilities since joining the Big 12 Conference. BYU’s strong showing in key sports such as women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, and men’s volleyball played a significant role in boosting the school’s national standing. Each of these programs not only qualified for postseason play but also advanced deep into their respective tournaments, earning valuable Directors’ Cup points.
The Directors’ Cup ranks more than 350 Division I schools based on their finishes in up to 19 sports, including mandatory counts from baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball. BYU’s ability to thrive in both major and Olympic sports is a reflection of its athletic department’s depth and commitment to excellence.
This achievement also enhances BYU’s reputation as a competitive force in its relatively new Power Five conference home. The top-25 finish signals that the Cougars are not just participating at the highest level — they are competing with the best.
