Ohio State has officially promoted Brian Hartline to offensive coordinator, recognizing his success in recruiting and developing elite wide receivers.
A former Miami Dolphins receiver and Ohio State alum, Hartline has become one of the most respected position coaches in college football. Since joining the Buckeyes’ staff in 2017, he has helped mold multiple first-round NFL Draft picks, including Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Marvin Harrison Jr. His reputation as a top recruiter was cemented when 247Sports named him National Recruiter of the Year in 2020.
Last season, Hartline shared the offensive coordinator title with Chip Kelly, but Kelly called plays. With Kelly now heading to the NFL to join the Las Vegas Raiders, Hartline takes full control of the offense. Many Buckeye players and recruits are thrilled about the move, including five-star wide receiver commit Chris Henry Jr., who expressed confidence in Hartline’s ability to maximize the team’s offensive potential.
Hartline’s playing career began when the Dolphins selected him in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Over six seasons in Miami, he caught 344 passes for 4,766 yards and recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2012 and 2013.
Now, his focus shifts to leading Ohio State’s offense into a new era. With his deep understanding of the passing game and ability to develop top-tier talent, expectations are high for the Buckeyes under his leadership.
