“There was a time we thought we’d lose our home,” Siakam recalled. “The fear of not knowing where you’ll sleep, especially for a kid—it never leaves you.”
It was his mother’s strength that gave him the fire to keep going, eventually landing him in the U.S., then onto a scholarship, and finally to the NBA. But the memory of the struggle—the smell of damp walls, the sting of going to bed hungry—became his lifelong motivation.

When asked why he chose to donate the entire $12.9 million instead of a portion, Siakam didn’t hesitate.
