In a stunning and emotional announcement that has electrified the college football world, former Nebraska Cornhuskers legend and NFL All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has revealed his return to the sport—this time, not as a player, but as a coach.
During a press conference held at Memorial Stadium, Suh officially confirmed he will join the Nebraska Cornhuskers coaching staff as a Special Advisor to the Defensive Line, marking his first formal coaching position since retiring from the NFL. Suh, a dominant force during his collegiate years from 2005 to 2009, is widely considered one of the greatest defensive players in Nebraska history.
“Nebraska shaped me into the man I am today,” Suh told reporters. “This program, this community—it’s in my blood. I’m honored and excited to give back and help shape the next generation of Huskers.”
Suh’s return comes at a pivotal time for Nebraska football, as Head Coach Matt Rhule continues to rebuild the storied program into a national contender. Rhule welcomed Suh with open arms, calling him “a generational player, a fierce competitor, and now, an invaluable mentor.”
During his college career, Suh earned unanimous All-American honors and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy—an extraordinary achievement for a defensive player. He went on to have a stellar NFL career with teams including the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Philadelphia Eagles, winning a Super Bowl with the Bucs in 2021.
Fans and alumni have flooded social media with excitement, many calling this a “homecoming for the ages.” The hope is that Suh’s leadership, NFL experience, and unmatched knowledge of the defensive trenches will help restore Nebraska’s once-feared Blackshirts defense.
While Suh emphasized that his role will be focused on mentorship and development rather than full-time recruiting or play-calling, he did not rule out taking on greater responsibilities in the future.
“I’m here to learn just as much as I’m here to teach,” Suh said. “But make no mistake—I plan on helping bring championships back to Lincoln.”
As the Cornhuskers prepare for the upcoming season, the return of their most iconic modern-day player adds not only credibility but a renewed sense of hope and pride to the Nebraska
